Kirk Nahra Featured in FierceHealthPayer Interview on Government Fraud Investigations
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy Practice and co-chair of the Health Care Practice, was featured by FierceHealthPayer: AntiFraud in an interview published March 31 on how health care payers can prepare for a government fraud investigation.
How insurers can decrease the likelihood they will be investigated for fraud and whether or not additional insurance is necessary to protect against the cost of an investigation were among the topics Mr. Nahra discussed with Jane Antonio, editor of FierceHealthPayer: AntiFraud.
“Payers are more likely to be investigated these days because more of them participate in government health care programs,” Mr. Nahra said in the interview. “And the government’s anti-fraud effort is increasingly and disproportionately focused on government programs rather than the commercial side of health care fraud. The real issue is not so much how to avoid investigations as it is how to prepare for them and deal effectively with them if they happen.”
