Kirk Nahra Discusses Major Cases Involving FTC Data Security Oversight
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy Practice, was quoted yesterday in a Law360 article about the biggest privacy cases of the past six months. The first half of 2014 has produced notable rulings in separate challenges from Wyndham Worldwide Corp. and LabMD Inc. to the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) authority to regulate data security practices, according to the article.
“The FTC has been engaged in this area for about a decade, with approximately 50 cases to date, but is being challenged this year for the first time on its approach,” Mr. Nahra told Law360. “To put it bluntly, the result of [these cases] can change the entire landscape of data security regulation in the United States.”
