Nova Daly Discusses Solar Trade Dispute with China at CSIS Panel
Nova J. Daly, a senior public policy advisor in Wiley Rein’s International Trade Practice, was quoted by MarketWatch in its coverage of an August 5 panel discussion on the growing market for solar energy.
Trade disputes with China have been a big concern for U.S. solar manufacturers, Mr. Daly said during the panel, which was organized by the CSIS Energy and National Security Program. The U.S. has imposed two rounds of tariffs so far on Chinese solar imports in response to China’s harmful export subsidies, he said.
The end goal for domestic solar manufacturers “has always been to have a U.S. market that is fair and equitable and based on competition that is not WTO illegal,” Mr. Daly said during his presentation. “I think all companies agree that given that level playing field, you are in a position to compete fairly with the best innovations.”
Trade policies should “make sure you don’t have distortions that take away from the marketplace,” he said.
