Michael Toner Discusses Grimes Campaign’s Alleged Use of Family Business-Owned Vehicles

Roll Call
October 6, 2014

Michael E. Toner, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted in an article published October 3 in Roll Call about Alison Lundergan Grimes’ campaign’s alleged use of vehicles associated with her family’s businesses.  Vehicles registered to businesses owned by Jerry Lundergan, Ms. Grimes’s father, have been seen at campaign events, raising the question of whether the campaign is properly reimbursing the businesses for the use of the vehicles.  Mr. Toner, a former chairman of the Federal Election Commission, said that the Grimes campaign would need to be paying market rates for the use of the vehicles to ensure the campaign does not run afoul of restrictions on in-kind corporate contributions.  To read the entire article, click here.
