Kirk Nahra Discusses Enhanced Framework for Health Privacy Compliance
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy Practice and co-chair of the Health Care Practice, was quoted by The Privacy Advisor in a January 7 article about updates to an industry framework that helps health care organizations comply with privacy and data security regulations.
The Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST), which developed the framework, announced this week that it had added new privacy controls to make it easier for providers to protect medical data under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Mr. Nahra said HITRUST has been an important participant in bringing useful information on security to the health care industry and trying to make sense of requirements such as the HIPAA Security Rule. “By bringing privacy into this concept, they’ve played an important role in guaranteeing the link between privacy and security and giving health care companies a useful and efficient way of improving their overall compliance approach,” he said.
