Robert Walker Discusses Proper Use of Congressional Email Accounts

National Journal
March 16, 2015

Robert L. Walker, of counsel in Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted extensively by National Journal in an article published yesterday about how Members of Congress and administration officials are subject to different rules governing email retention. According to the article, Members of Congress’ official email accounts are subject to more restrictions than personal email addresses.

“A Member can use their official resources, including personal email, if they choose to for official . . . purposes at least as a general matter,” Mr. Walker said. “I think it would be prudent for member to use their official emails for official purposes, but I don't think it's absolutely required to be done all the time.”
