Kirk Nahra Discusses Credit and Fraud Protection Offered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy Practice and co-chair of the Health Care Practice, was quoted in a July 15 Modern Healthcare article about free and continuous credit monitoring and fraud protection services that Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans will offer to their members, following a series of data breaches.
Health insurance companies that have been the targets of large-scale hacks typically offer at least one year of credit monitoring for their members, according to the article. Privacy attorneys say this is likely to become the norm in the health care industry.
“The point of this protection is to reduce and hopefully eliminate anything bad that is going to happen,” Mr. Nahra said. “If they offer it (credit protection) and you didn’t take it, whose problem is that?”
