Jan Baran Discusses Donald Trump Self-Financing His Campaign

Jan Witold Baran, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted in an article published July 24 in The Wall Street Journal about Donald Trump’s self-funded campaign.

According to the article, Mr. Trump is not the first presidential candidate to finance his own campaign. In 1992, Ross Perot spent $60 million of his own dollars to fund his ultimately unsuccessful campaign.

“Money helps get attention and be in the race,” Mr. Baran said. “Whether the candidate is able to stay in a race depends on the voters.”
