Wiley Rein's Robert Walker Comments on Senator Ensign Ethics Investigation

Roll Call, Communications Daily
February 1, 2011

Wiley Rein's Robert Walker was quoted in a statement commenting on the Senate Ethics Committee's decision to hire a special counsel to investigate Senator John Ensign (R-NV). The committee did not disclose any specifics on the allegations. "The Senate Ethics Committee has assured Senator Ensign that their inquiry remains in the preliminary stage and that the appointment of a special counsel does not change the course of its inquiry," Mr. Walker-an attorney in the firm's Election Law & Government Ethics Practice and a former staff director of the House and Senate Ethics panels-said in the statement.  "Senator Ensign is confident that he complied with all ethics rules and laws, and he is hopeful that this appointment will lead to a more speedy resolution of this matter. As Senator Ensign's office has been doing, they will continue to cooperate with the Committee's inquiry," he concluded. Mr. Walker is representing Sen. Ensign during the investigation.
