Michael Toner Discusses Campaign Finance Reporting Error by Rep. Shuler's Campaign

Asheville Citizen-Times
May 27, 2011

Election Law & Government Ethics Practice co-chair Michael Toner was quoted commenting on Rep. Heath Shuler’s (D-NC) campaign’s failure to report $1 million in spending last year. Mr. Toner said that “such a large error would likely result in an FEC investigation and a possible fine.” While the majority of campaign finance reporting errors involve contributions, Mr. Toner noted that “the Democratic National Committee agreed in 2007 to pay an $82,000 fine after the FEC found that it had improperly reported some expenditures.”
