Wiley Rein’s Michael Toner Comments on Last-Minute Fundraising by Presidential Campaigns

Politico
November 6, 2012

Michael Toner, a partner in Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted in a November 5 Politico story about last-minute fundraising by President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney.

The campaigns could use every dollar they raise for Election Day get-out-the-vote efforts in swing states, and may also need those funds if a recount occurs, Mr. Toner, a former chairman of the Federal Election Commission, told Politico. “This might not be the end of it,” he said.

Even if the presidential race officially ends on Election Day, both campaigns will have wind-up costs such as salaries, rent and telephone bills, according to the report. Mr. Obama and Mr. Romney each raised about $1 billion in donations for this year’s election.
