Kevin Anderson Discusses U.S. Court’s Favorable Patent Ruling on ARM’s Technology

June 27, 2013

Kevin P. Anderson, a partner in Wiley Rein’s Intellectual Property Practice, was quoted by Law360 in its June 19 coverage of a California federal judge’s ruling that several electronics companies did not infringe on two patents by using technology developed by ARM Inc. in their mobile devices.

The judge cited fundamental differences between ARM’s technology and the Java programming hardware created by Nazomi Communication LLC, in Nazomi Communications Inc. v. Samsung Telecommunications Inc. et al. and Nazomi Communications Inv. v. Samsung Telecommunications America LLC et al.

Samsung was among the companies sued by Nazomi in 2010 over their use of ARM’s processors. Law360 noted that ARM was not named as a defendant in either lawsuit, but intervened on behalf of the defendant companies to protect its own technology. Mr. Anderson and Wiley Rein attorney Karin A. Hessler represent ARM.

“ARM is happy about the ruling,” Mr. Anderson told Law360. “We feel like we just have a fundamentally different technology than Nazomi.”
