Kirk Nahra Offers Tips to Aspiring Privacy Attorneys
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy Practice and co-chair of the Health Care Practice, was quoted in a Law360 article focusing on career tips for up-and-coming lawyers looking to enter the emerging privacy and data security field. According to the article, this practice area is growing as data breaches continue to occur and companies are developing innovative, new technology features to sell products and services to customers, which often have unintended legal consequences.
Mr. Nahra offered tips including: “Learn the language of the people you are working with. If you are working with IT security people, for example, you need to be able to know how to communicate with them.”
He also pointed out the need to be practical in advising clients. “Know the law, but don’t be a burden to your clients,” Mr. Nahra said. “Be helpful, and help them get to their goals if at all possible. Don’t always be looking for the negatives.”
The need for keeping up with changes in the industry was also noted. “Pay attention to the problems that are happening to other people,” Mr. Nahra added. “Those problems will hit your clients as well.”
