Chambers USA Ranks Wiley Rein's Franchise Practice Among the Nation's Best; Robert A. Smith Named a "Leading Lawyer"
The 2011 edition of Chambers USA: Leading Lawyers for Business recognizes Wiley Rein's Franchise Practice as one of the best in the country and ranks Group chair Robert A. Smith as a "Leading Lawyer" in Franchising Law. The Franchise Practice receives additional plaudits for its "Client Service" and "Commercial Awareness."
Describing the group, Chambers notes that it is "a strong contender in the transactional and compliance-related areas. Bankruptcy matters, development agreements, disclosure and agreement documentation and disclosure documentation compliance all fall under its expertise. The group fields an experienced international arm and in the past year handled anticounterfeiting and cybersquatter matters."
The group's client service and industry knowledge is notable. "They have an excellent way of building relationships with their clients, they go way beyond what we ask, they're constantly connecting people and creating networks so we can all share information either through them or directly with each other," a source tells Chambers. Another source adds, "The raw knowledge of the law that they have is incredible. The law is always changing and they're very certain about what is current and real, and that helps them empower clients to make the right decisions."
Kudos extend to Robert Smith, whose "happy clients" describe him as "a tremendous resource," "'knowledgeable and responsive.' He specializes in captive market development opportunities and sources note his high level of technical knowledge, particularly in disclosure documentation regulation."
The Chambers ratings are based on extensive interviews of law firms' clients, colleagues and competitors. Inclusion in the directory is determined through a rigorous vetting process.
