Clients and Friends,
This report is a new resource from Wiley Rein LLP, reflecting the strengthening of our Environment & Safety Practice with Steven Richardson as a new partner. Steven has a strong background in natural resources and environmental policy, regulation, enforcement and litigation. Prior to his last dozen years in private practice, he served as a policy advisor to Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt, as the chief operating officer of the Bureau of Reclamation and as Deputy Director of the Bureau of Land Management.
Steven joins a team that already has considerable experience with natural resources and related issues. We recently have obtained several appellate and district court decisions supporting our pesticide clients' positions on the relationship between the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and successfully negotiated Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and related regulations under California's Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act. Our team also has considerable experience in assessing natural resource damages and defending claims under Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation & Liability Act (CERCLA) and related statutes, in Clean Air Act litigation and in ecological risk assessment. We also work closely with the firm's Public Policy Group, headed by former House Energy & Commerce Member Jim Slattery, on related legislative issues.
