Wiley Rein Wins Favorable Decision in Disability Case

February 19, 2010

Wiley Rein recently earned a "fully favorable" decision on behalf of its client in a disability benefits case that the firm had been working on for several years as part of its pro bono initiatives. Seeking to recover benefits for our client, Craig Smith, an associate in the Government Contracts Practice, put together a brief detailing the client's past medical history, pursued supplemental health records from various health care providers and  convinced  the hearing officer to suspend the hearing pending additional mental health evaluation.  The SSA hearing judge then found our client to be disabled dating back to 2002, based on chronic health problems and severe mental retardation that had not been previously assessed during earlier stages of the claim process. Associates Gregory Langlois, Amanda Schwoerke and Jon Burd also worked on the case.
