Laura A. Foggan Named One of Law360's "10 Most Admired Insurance Attorneys"
Laura A. Foggan, chair of Wiley Rein's Insurance Appellate Group, has been named one of Law360's "10 Most Admired Insurance Attorneys," recognition that her "depth of knowledge has made her a regular go-to for insurance company clients dealing with emerging issues-global warming, nanotechnology, tainted drywall, Gulf oil spill exposures and more."
Profiling Ms. Foggan, "a longtime advocate for the insurance industry who has won colleagues' respect for her more than 25 years of contributions to insurance law," Law360 notes that she "has participated in more than 200 major insurance coverage appeals nationwide, including many that set key precedents on insurance issues." Amicus briefs authored by Ms. Foggan "have ended up forming case law that has become shorthand language for key insurance coverage topics."
Thomas W. Brunner, Chairman Emeritus of Wiley Rein's Insurance Group, and a long-time colleague, praises Ms. Foggan, telling Law360 she was "very clearly an exceptional lawyer from the beginning. She made an immediate strong impression, because she was very creative, she was very energetic, and she was certainly willing to roll up her sleeves and work hard."
Ms. Foggan also is acknowledged as an "important role model in the insurance community," serving as co-chair of the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association Litigation Section. As co-chair of the Insurance Law Forum of the D.C. Women's Bar Association, she "plays an important, if quieter, role as an advocate for women in the law," a sentiment echoed by Mr. Brunner who calls her "an understated but clear pioneer for women" in the field.
Law360 received more than 1,000 peer nominations for this accolade; the list was vetted by a board of experienced lawyers and Law360 editorial staff.
