Richard E. Wiley Named to Businessweek's List of Washington, DC "Power Brokers"

Bloomberg Businessweek has named Wiley Rein managing partner Richard E. Wiley to its list of 15 Washington, DC "Power Brokers."  Mr. Wiley, a former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman is recognized for his leadership of the "largest communications law practice in the U.S." and a "measure of influence" illustrated by the firm's participation in FCC meetings prior to the Commission's net neutrality vote.  He appears on the list with prominent figures such as Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY), Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Mark Warner (D-VA), Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz.

Mr. Wiley's "political clout" as the Chairman of the FCC's advisory committee on advanced television service also is noted.  For his pivotal role in the development of HDTV, Dennis Wharton, spokesman of the National Association of Broadcasters, told Businessweek that Mr. Wiley is the "godfather of digital television."

Mr. Wiley has received numerous accolades throughout his storied career, including being named one of "the decade's most influential lawyers" by the National Law Journal, a Legal Times "Visionary" and the "undisputed dean of the communications bar" by Washingtonian magazine.
