Wiley Rein's Henry Rivera Joins the Internet Innovation Alliance as Strategic Counsel

July 13, 2011

Henry Rivera, a partner in the firm's Communications Practice and former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner, has joined the Internet Innovation Alliance (IIA) as Strategic Counsel. In his position, Mr. Rivera will aid the IIA in its mission of expanding broadband availability and adoption throughout the country, particularly to rural and other underserved communities. "Reaching 100 percent broadband has long been a goal of mine, as much of my career has focused on paving the way for information technologies to transform our society," Mr. Rivera said. "It is an exciting time for telecommunications policy, with real solutions to achieving this goal having been put on the table. I look forward to drawing from my experiences to shed light on a path that will lead our country to realization of broadband for all Americans," he added.

Mr. Rivera was the first Hispanic Commissioner appointed to the FCC and has been named one of the District of Columbia's "Super Lawyers" and among The Best Lawyers in America in Communications Law. He has also been singled out as a "Leading Lawyer" by Chambers USA and named among the top 12 Telecom experts in the U.S. by Legal Media Group's Best of the Best.

The IIA has more than 40 members including Alcatel Lucent, AT&T, Ciena, The National Black Chamber of Commerce and The National Grange.
