Wiley Rein's Henry Rivera Honored for His Work As Chairman of the Minority Media & Telecom Council

December 27, 2011

Wiley Rein Communications Practice partner Henry M. Rivera was recently feted at a ceremony to honor his 25 years as chairman of the Minority Media & Telecom Council (MMTC). Mr. Rivera-a former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner-will be stepping down from his post at the end of the year. Wiley Rein Chairman Richard E. Wiley was on hand to offer remarks during the event, as were FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and Commissioners Mignon Clyburn and Rob McDowell. Former Chairman Bill Kennard and former Commissioner Meredith Baker, along with Assistant Commerce Secretary Lawrence Strickling and Deputy Assistant Secretary Anna Gomez, also spoke at the ceremony.

Telecommunications Policy Review, which covered the event, reported that Mr. Rivera's "principal contribution lies in successfully broadening the scope and perspective of this advocacy group" and noted that speakers at the ceremony touted "his ability to get divergent groups to work well together." The publication also highlighted Mr. Rivera's ability in ensuring "that MMTC remained a broadly bipartisan proposition" and "the fact that MMTC has successfully steered clear of partisan politics is due to leadership such as Henry Rivera's."

MMTC is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving equal opportunity and civil rights in the mass media, telecommunications and broadband industries, and closing the digital divide.
