Wiley Rein Food & Drug Law Practice Sponsors FDLI’s Annual Conference; Sonali Gunawardhana to Speak on Panels

April 23, 2014

Washington, DC — Wiley Rein’s Food & Drug Law Practice is a proud sponsor of this week’s annual educational conference of the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI).  The two-day conference, which began today, will feature a presentation from Sonali P. Gunawardhana, of counsel in the Practice and a former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) attorney.

Ms. Gunawardhana will speak on a panel Thursday April 24 on food and drug law career opportunities.  Prior to joining Wiley Rein in 2012, she worked for almost a decade as an FDA attorney, including serving in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health.  “Working at the FDA for close to 10 years gave me great insight on the complex issues the agency faces on a daily basis in terms of the delicate balance of the promotion of innovative medical products and the protection of public health,” Ms. Gunawardhana said.  “Working for myriad clients at Wiley Rein has given me the opportunity to share a unique perspective based on my previous experience at the FDA, in order to come up with a more collaborative approach which both benefits our clients and advances the U.S. public health.”

Ms. Gunawardhana will speak next month at two additional FDLI events, including Introduction to Medical Device Law & Regulation, which is scheduled for May 6-7 and is open to the public.  The other conference, running from May 27-29, is reserved for FDA personnel.

Wiley Rein’s Food & Drug Law Team is led by Practice chair James N. Czaban and founding partner Bert W. Rein, both of whom have been recognized in numerous independent rankings as leaders in food and drug law.  The Team handles complex legal and regulatory challenges, and the more routine but crucial regulatory tasks required of FDA-regulated companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, food, and dietary supplement industries.
