Wiley Rein Women’s Forum Hosts Reception for Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton

April 6, 2017

Washington, DC—The Wiley Rein Women’s Forum hosted a cocktail reception and short presentation last night featuring the Honorable Eleanor Holmes Norton. The diverse group of women attending the event included clients, friends of the firm, and Wiley Rein attorneys.

Speaking at Washington’s historic Sulgrave Club, Congresswoman Norton discussed her unique experiences as a professional woman, including her public service as a member of Congress, representing the District of Columbia for the past 26 years. She also discussed her work as a civil rights attorney, which is showcased in the Amazon TV series Good Girls Revolt.

Congresswoman Norton, a third-generation Washingtonian, has been named one of the 100 most important American women in one survey and one of the most powerful women in Washington in another. Prior to her election to the U.S. House of Representatives, she was the first woman to chair the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, appointed by President Jimmy Carter. She came to Congress in 1991 as a national figure who had been a civil rights and feminist leader, tenured professor at Georgetown University Law Center, and board member at three Fortune 500 companies.

Wiley Rein’s Women’s Forum is an informal group of attorneys from diverse backgrounds that meets occasionally to allow partners to provide mentoring to associates on career advancement and business development issues and to allow attorneys to share experiences.
