WRF To Be Honored as “Volunteer Organization of the Year” by D.C. Homeless Women’s Organization

April 18, 2006

Washington, DC—Wiley Rein & Fielding will be honored by Calvary Women’s Services as its “Volunteer Organization of the Year” at the group’s fifth annual Hope Awards Dinner.  Calvary is a nonprofit organization providing shelter, services and education to homeless women in Washington, DC.  The awards, which also honor two local women leaders, recognize the significant contributions WRF has made on both the individual and firm level to Calvary’s volunteer and support effort over the past year.

In addition to providing pro bono legal counsel and representation to Calvary, WRF employees have volunteered at the shelter, donated computers and other technical equipment, included the group in the firm’s holiday gift giving program and walked for Calvary in the Help the Homeless Walkathon, contributing to the more than $100,000 the group raised from the event.

Calvary runs several programs for women dedicated to addressing the causes of homelessness and providing realistic solutions.  These programs include a 25-bed extended stay shelter and in-house services ranging from job training to GED preparation to mental health counseling.  WRF partner Tracy A. Heinzman has served as the president of the board of directors for Calvary for the past two years.
