Wiley Receives NABA’s International Achievement Award

February 23, 2004

Washington, DC—Richard E. Wiley, managing partner of Wiley Rein & Fielding LLP, has been named the recipient of the North American Broadcasters Association’s (NABA) International Achievement Award.

This award recognizes Wiley’s commitment to NABA’s goals and principles and his accomplishments as a leader in the broadcast industry, notably his role as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission’s Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service, which established the digital and high definition television transmission standard that was adopted by the FCC in 1995.

"The emergence of digital high definition television in North American and internationally is a result, in large measure to Dick’s exemplary skills as a visionary, diplomat and negotiator," said Michael McEwen, secretary general of the NABA in a release issued by the association.

"If a new age of digital television and high definition has indeed been born," says Joe Flaherty, Senior Vice President, Technology of CBS and a NABA board member, "Wiley is its father."

The award will be presented during NABA’s annual meeting on February 22-24, 2004, in Los Angeles, CA.
