Kirk Nahra Discusses Secretary Sebelius’s Call for New CMS Chief Risk Officer Position
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy Practice and co-chair of the Health Care Practice, was quoted by Bloomberg BNA yesterday about U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s call for a new “chief risk officer” position to be created within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Secretary Sebelius announced yesterday that the chief risk officer will work across CMS to assess risk management practices associated with major agency initiatives, according to the article in Bloomberg BNA’s Health Care Fraud Report.
The new CMS position “is essentially a formal role to think about what can go wrong and how to fix it or mitigate it,” said Mr. Nahra, who specializes in health care, privacy, information security, compliance programs, and insurance fraud issues for the health care and insurance industries and others facing legal obligations on these issues.
