Michael Toner Weighs in on Super PAC Disavowed by Sen. Warren

The Washington Times
August 28, 2014

Michael E. Toner, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted in an article published August 26 in The Washington Times about Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) publicly disavowing a grass-roots political action committee (PAC) called “Ready for Warren.”  Senator Warren has said that she has no intention to run for president in 2016, and urged supporters to focus on important Senate races this year.  “As a practical matter, you can’t bar a Super PAC from operating,” said Mr. Toner, a former Federal Election Commission (FEC) chairman. “The next best thing you can do is state on a public record that this is not authorized, that this is not endorsed by Warren, and she is not running.  That sometimes will slow down a PAC’s operations and its ability to raise money, as opposed to not saying anything.”  To read the entire article, click here.
