Timothy Brightbill Featured in E&ETV Interview on Solar Trade Dispute with China

E&ETV
September 16, 2014

Wiley Rein International Trade partner Timothy C. Brightbill appeared today on E&ETV’s “OnPoint” program to discuss the trade dispute between U.S. and Chinese solar manufacturers.

A Wiley Rein team led by Mr. Brightbill won an important victory in July for the firm’s client, SolarWorld, before the U.S. Department of Commerce.  The agency agreed to impose duties on Chinese solar companies after it was determined that the companies were illegally dumping their product below the cost of production, thereby injuring the U.S. solar manufacturing industry.

The Commerce ruling should close a loophole that enabled many Chinese solar manufacturers to evade tariffs imposed by the U.S. in 2012, Mr. Brightbill said.  “The good news is with these tariffs, we see a recovery in U.S. manufacturing,” he said.  “We see companies adding jobs.  SolarWorld is adding production, the kinds of things that you would hope a trade case would do—bring manufacturing and jobs back here to the United States.”
