Kirk Nahra Discusses FCC’s First Data Security Enforcement Action
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy Practice, was quoted yesterday in a Law360 article about the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) first data security enforcement action. The agency last week proposed a $10 million fine against two telecommunications carriers for allegedly breaching the personal data of more than 300,000 customers.
“For a first entry into this area of enforcement, it is a particularly aggressive action,” Mr. Nahra said. “Obviously, the FCC does not have the jurisdictional reach of other enforcement agencies in this area, but its ability to issue fines gives it some additional clout in this area that the FTC typically does not have.”
