Wiley Rein’s Kirk Nahra Discusses Medical Privacy Issues Related to Ebola Crisis
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy Practice and co-chair of the Health Care Practice, was quoted in a January 1 ABA Journal article about legal issues related to the Ebola outbreak and cases that have occurred in the United States.
Much of the complexity of the legal response to any disease outbreak stems from the fact that the competing legal interests of different groups come into play, Mr. Nahra noted during a recent “tweet chat” hosted by the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Health Law Section. For example, a patient’s right to privacy is protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), among other laws, he said.
