David Weslow Quoted in STORES Magazine About Domain Name Theft Lawsuit

STORES Magazine

David E. Weslow, a partner in Wiley Rein’s Intellectual Property Practice, was quoted by the National Retail Federation’s STORES magazine in an article about domain name theft, a form of intellectual property theft that has become a growing problem for U.S. businesses. The article noted that Mr. Weslow represented Acme Billing Company in a unique domain lawsuit.

The suit, filed in October 2014, was the first federal lawsuit of its kind on behalf of an e-commerce company that had a number of Internet domain names stolen by computer hackers based in China.

“Acme is, unfortunately, the latest in a growing number of American business victims of domain name theft,” Mr. Weslow said.

The case, Acme Billing Company v. John Doe, included claims under the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection and  the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and was recently concluded with Acme Billing Company successfully obtaining the court ordered return of the stolen domain names.
