Jan Baran Comments on Political Fundraising Totals
The Journal reports that President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, combined with the Democratic National Committee, brought in $244 million in 2011. As a whole, Republicans raised $216 million last year. In the final quarter of 2011, the RNC and the GOP presidential candidates brought in roughly $73 million, while the president and the DNC raised $68 million.
The article also reports that in the final three months of 2011, Mr. Obama brought in $42 million, nearly twice as much as the $24 million raised by Republican front-runner Mitt Romney. Mr. Baran noted that, once selected, Republicans traditionally rally around their nominee, with political donations picking up considerably.
