Elizabeth Goldin Discusses FCC Media Bureau Order Reaffirming Agency's Ban on Online-Only Recruitment
Elizabeth E. Goldin, special counsel in Wiley Rein’s Telecom, Media & Technology Practice, was quoted in Inside Radio’s coverage of a forfeiture order issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Media Bureau in a case involving the agency’s equal employment opportunity (EEO) rules.
The Media Bureau, in its July 25 order, rejected a cable company’s attempt to persuade the FCC to abandon its ban on online-only employment outreach, arguing that the company's sole use of a website to publicize its job vacancies constituted “wide dissemination of information” of its job vacancies throughout the community. Ms. Goldin provided insights about the order in a WileyonMedia blog post that was cited by Inside Radio.
For companies that are subject to the Commission’s EEO rules, the decision serves as a reminder that “a mix of recruitment sources—both offline and online—must be used in advertising all full-time vacancies,” Ms. Goldin said. “It also signals that the FCC remains firm in its stance prohibiting online-only job postings, and doesn’t plan to budge any time soon.”
