Jan Baran Comments on FEC Limits for Super PAC Donations
Jan Witold Baran, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, provided comment for a Politico story about a fundraiser for Ted Cruz, who was soliciting supporters at a campaign event and suggesting they give unlimited donations to an allied super political action committee (PAC), according to a recording the publication obtained.
The Federal Election Commission rules allow campaign officials to direct potential donors to super PACs, but they can only solicit for up to $5,000 without breaking the law.
“The fellow should revise and extend his remarks to make it clear he was not asking for more than $5,000,” said Mr. Baran.
