Jan Baran Discusses Rick Perry Super PAC Options
Jan Witold Baran, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was quoted in a segment that aired September 14 on Marketplace about the $13 million in the coffers of three super political action committees (PACs) that supported Rick Perry in his bid for president.
According to the segment, now that Mr. Perry has suspended his campaign the super PACs can refund the money to donors, give it to other candidate super PACs, or donate the money to charity.
“I’m guessing that the Perry super PACs are hearing from many other super PACs who’d like their money,” Mr. Baran said.
The Perry-supported super PACs could also use the money for the personal use of the people running them.
“It’s legally possible, but highly discouraged,” Mr. Baran said of the last option.
