Kevin Rupy Quoted on Robocallers After Senate Passes TRACED Act

Kevin G. Rupy, partner in Wiley Rein’s Telecom, Media & Technology (TMT) Practice, was quoted in a May 23 Law360 article about the U.S. Senate passing the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act.

According to Law360, the TRACED Act allows the Federal Communications Commission to pursue robocall violators for three years and would also allow them to levy fines of up to $10,000 per illegal call.

During his testimony last month at a subcommittee hearing on the bill, Mr. Rupy said the threat of criminal prosecution would absolutely deter calls and that repeat offenders would be less likely to make robocalls if they knew they could be prosecuted.

“The best way to prevent illegal robocalls is to stop them from ever being made, and the best way to ensure that is to put the people making them behind bars” said Mr. Rupy.
