Kirk Nahra Discusses Whether FTC Overhaul Will Affect Privacy Enforcement
Kirk J. Nahra, chair of Wiley Rein’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice, was quoted in a January 31 Law360 article about a pending overhaul of leadership at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which serves as the nation’s top privacy and data security enforcement agency.
President Trump recently nominated a new slate of FTC members with primarily antitrust backgrounds. If confirmed by the Senate, the new commissioners may be more selective in their pursuit of privacy cases and other consumer protection matters, according to the article.
“In short, I would expect ‘less of the same,’” Mr. Nahra told Law360. “Meaning, generally the same practices – primarily related to significant security incidents – but probably less of it overall.”
