Paul Khoury Comments on Impact of Shutdown on Government Contracts Work

Bloomberg Law
January 7, 2019

Paul F. Khoury, co-chair of Wiley Rein’s Government Contracts Practice, was quoted by Bloomberg Law in a January 4 article discussing how the partial government shutdown is impacting client work for law firms with government contracts practices. While operations have slowed at federal departments and agencies, government contracts practices remain busy, according to Bloomberg Law.

Mr. Khoury said that clients are calling with plenty of questions about how to adapt in this environment. He also said he’s spending a lot of time counseling clients on the steps they should be taking, including determining whether their contract has been impacted, and then talking to their contracting officers.

A lot of the contractors have been through shutdowns before so there’s perhaps “a little less angst,” but for the workers it may be more daunting, Mr. Khoury said.

There’s no guarantee of retroactive pay, said Mr. Khoury—and job security is also at risk.
