Robert Walker Discusses Whether Senate Could Expel Roy Moore If He Is Elected

Robert L. Walker, of counsel in Wiley Rein’s Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, weighed in with The Wall Street Journal for a November 13 article about allegations against U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore of Alabama.  

With Mr. Moore facing new accusations this week of past misconduct, Republican leaders have stepped up their efforts to block him from taking a Senate seat – and if he wins the December 12 special election, he could be investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee and expelled, according to the article.

Some have questioned whether Mr. Moore could be sanctioned by the Senate for prior alleged misconduct, but Mr. Walker noted that the Ethics Committee has made clear in past rulings that it does believe it can reach to past behavior.
