WRF Attorney Authors Keeping It Legal: A Media Law Handbook for the Newsroom

Washington, DC—Wiley Rein & Fielding attorney Kathleen A. Kirby has authored Keeping It Legal: A Media Law Handbook for the Newsroom, a practical reference guide for news managers who face legal issues on a regular basis as well as broadcast educators.

The guide, published by the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA), features chapters on media access, cameras in the courts, confidential sources, copyright, employment and labor law, ethics and standards, FCC rules and regulations, Freedom of Information Act, Internet law, libel, privacy, subpoenas and more. The guide also includes a glossary of legal terms, coverage guidelines and a list of helpful websites.

Kirby, who serves as legal counsel to the RTNDA, represents broadcast clients, including major radio and television group owners, on regulatory and transactional matters before the Federal Communications Commission. She has particular expertise in newsgathering, content regulation and First Amendment issues.
