Wiley Rein’s David Weinberg to Chair International Battery Health and Safety Standards Conference

February 28, 2008

Wiley Rein Environment & Safety Practice chair will chair a program in Shenzhen, China, on March 3 and 4, designed to help Chinese battery manufacturers and recyclers meet international health and safety standards.

The program is the Health, Safety and Environmental Technology Transfer Conference, sponsored by the Battery Council International (BCI).   U.S. battery manufacturers are international leaders in reducing workplace exposures to lead and other hazardous materials and in controlling air and other manufacturing emissions.   Mr. Weinberg and several other speakers will explain the regulatory programs in place in the U.S. and the control techniques and technologies that the industry has developed.  Over 100 employees of Chinese battery companies are expected to attend.

Mr. Weinberg serves as counsel to BCI, the Portable Rechargeable Battery Association, the Electronic Manufacturers Coalition for Responsible Recycling and several companies established to promote electronic product stewardship and e-waste recycling.    He is a leading authority on the domestic and international legal issues that arise in connection with those programs.
