Supreme Court and Appellate Court Clerks Bolster Wiley Rein's Litigation and Communications Teams

September 14, 2009

Wiley Rein LLP is adding to its ranks some of the nation's most accomplished young attorneys as they complete clerkships with the U.S. Supreme Court and federal appellate courts.  William S. Consovoy, Claire J. Evans, Brendan T. Carr, Peter J. Jenkins and Michael Connolly join a distinguished cadre of firm attorneys who have had the privilege of clerking for the high court, as well as more than 50 who have served as clerks in federal and state courts across the country.

Managing Partner Richard E. Wiley praises the group. "We are delighted that Will, Brendan, Peter and Michael are returning home to the firm and welcome Claire to our group.  These bright young stars are first-rate additions to our talented team of litigators.  We are proud of what they have already achieved and know they will make valuable contributions to the practice."

Former associate Consovoy will return to the firm as a partner in the Communications Practice, effective January 4, 2010, after finishing a one-year assignment as a clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas on the U.S. Supreme Court.  Consovoy, who will assist clients with a variety of trial and appellate matters, also served as a clerk for the Honorable Edith H. Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and as a clerk for the 17th Judicial Circuit of Virginia.  Consovoy received his J.D., magna cum laude, from George Mason University School of Law.

Evans, a former attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Appellate Section and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will join the firm's Communications Group on September 14 after completing her clerkship for Justice Thomas of the U.S. Supreme Court.  Her impressive resume of clerkships includes terms with The Honorable David B. Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, the Honorable Michael Chertoff of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Judge Jerome B. Simandle of the U. S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.  Evans graduated with highest honors from Rutgers University School of Law.

Carr, a former Wiley Rein associate who represents communications clients in federal and state litigation, returned to the firm August 31 after clerking for Judge Dennis W. Shedd on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  Carr graduated magna cum laude from Catholic University's Columbus School of Law.

Jenkins, who will join the Professional Liability Practice on September 28, recently completed a clerkship with the Honorable John Rogers of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  A former Wiley Rein summer associate, he received his J.D. from Brigham Young University.

Connolly, clerk to Judge Jerome A. Holmes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and a former summer associate, will join the firm's Communications Practice as an associate on January 11, 2010.  He earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law.
