Wiley Rein Hosts Program on "Ethics, Law and the Holocaust"

September 21, 2010

On Wednesday, September 15, Wiley Rein hosted "Ethics, Law and the Holocaust," a Continuing Legal Education luncheon presented by the Washington Lawyers Committee of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The program, which was attended by about 100 attorneys, took place on the anniversary of the enactment of the notorious Nuremberg laws and featured noted speaker and Holocaust Museum historian, Dr. William Meinecke. His presentation is part of the museum's ongoing efforts to educate lawyers and members of the judiciary on the legal and moral issues raised by the Holocaust and their continued relevance in national and international law.

Senior Partner Bert W. Rein, who coordinated and hosted the event said, "Wiley Rein took part in this event because of our commitment to the idea that lawyers have a special obligation to the administration of justice and the development of the law. The firm has long supported the Holocaust Memorial Museum and we encourage our lawyers to reflect on the past while working to strengthen their communities."

The program explores the legal system in Nazi Germany and the role it played in the Holocaust. Through the interpretation of images from the 1930s and 1940s and with a special emphasis on the law, lawyers and jurists in the regime, participants learn about the persecution of targeted minorities and the loss of judicial independence in Germany during World War II.

The Washington Lawyers Committee serves to strengthen support for the Holocaust Museum from law firms in the Washington, DC area.
