Wiley Rein Attorneys Receive 2016 Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing
Washington, DC—Wiley Rein attorneys Eve Klindera Reed, Brett A. Shumate, and Jeremy J. Broggi have been named recipients of a 2016 Burton Award for distinguished legal writing. Their winning article, “The FCC’s Expanding Use of Delegated Authority and the Dilemma of Appellate Jurisdiction,” was published last year by Communications Lawyer. The awards will be presented to this year’s winners on May 23, 2016, in a ceremony at the Library of Congress.
The Wiley Rein-authored article was among 35 columns that were selected from nominations submitted by the nation’s top 1,000 law firms. Ms. Reed and Mr. Shumate are partners in Wiley Rein’s Appellate, Litigation, and Telecom, Media & Technology (TMT) practices, and Ms. Reed co-chairs the Communications Enforcement & Compliance Group. Mr. Broggi is an associate in the Litigation and TMT practices.
The Burton Awards, founded in 1999, is a unique national awards program with a principle focus on effective legal writing. The nonprofit program is run in association with the Library of Congress, and is co-sponsored by the American Bar Association.
This year’s winning articles were selected by an Academic Committee led by Virginia Wise of Harvard Law School. Other committee members include Jeanne Merino, Stanford Law School; Judge Edward Forstenzer, California Superior Court (retired); Lindsay Sturges Saffouri, UC Berkeley School of Law; William Ryan, former Chair of the White House Plain Language Committee; and William C. Burton, Founder and Chair of the Burton Awards.
