Anna Gomez Named Chair of FCC’s Re-Chartered Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment
Washington, DC — Wiley Rein LLP partner Anna M. Gomez has been named Chair of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) re-chartered Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment (ACDDE). Ms. Gomez is a key member of Wiley Rein’s Telecom, Media & Technology and National Security practices, and is co-chair of the firm’s Unmanned & Aircraft Systems (UAS) Practice.
Ms. Gomez’ new role as Chair of the ACDDE was designated by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, along with Heather Gate, Director of Digital Inclusion at Connected Nation, who will serve as ACDDE Vice Chair. In welcoming Ms. Gomez to her new position, Chairman Pai stated: “Anna is a recognized expert in regulatory, policy, and transactional matters concerning domestic and international communications. She has a long and prestigious record of government service and will bring bold ideas and continuity to this important federal advisory committee.”
Chairman Pai has identified three working groups in conjunction with the re-chartered committee – Access to Capital, Digital Empowerment and Inclusion, and Diversity in the Tech Sector – that will assist the ACDDE in implementing its duties. The leaders and composition of these groups will be announced later this fall. The first public meeting of the re-chartered ACDDE will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at 10 a.m. at FCC headquarters, located at 445 12th Street SW, Room TW-C305, Washington, DC.
The ACDDE – first announced by Chairman Pai in April 2017 – provides advice and recommendations to the FCC regarding how to empower disadvantaged communities and accelerate the entry of small businesses, including those owned by women and minorities, into the media, digital news and information, and audio and video programming industries.
Last year, Ms. Gomez was named Vice Chair of the ACDDE. Prior to joining Wiley Rein in 2013, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. She advises clients in regulatory, policy, and transactional matters related to domestic and international telecommunications and unmanned aircraft systems. Ms. Gomez also serves as chair of Wiley Rein’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and was recently elected Assistant Treasurer of the Federal Communications Bar Association.
